Dr. Pamela Kawano is a licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey and New York. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Clinical
Psychology from California Lutheran University, as well as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University.
Dr. Kawano completed her doctoral training with Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare, where she worked as a forensic psychologist. Her educational and clinical experiences are diverse and interdisciplinary. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and has over 15 years of clinical experience across various settings and age groups.
Specializing in working with justice-involved individuals, victims of violence, and gang- involved populations, Dr. Kawano has extensive experience addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, suicidality, high-risk behaviors, trauma, life transitions, and other distressing factors, including health trauma, immigration, sexual abuse, relational issues, and grief/loss.
For nine years, she served as a clinical supervisor for the adolescent forensic track at Rutgers University Behavioral Health in Piscataway. Dr. Kawano employs a variety of therapeutic approaches, including mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, and Attachment-Based Therapy.
She is dedicated to providing clients with a safe space to share and have their unique emotional and personal experiences validated. Dr. Kawano believes that the therapeutic relationship is crucial to effective treatment. Her goal is to help clients view their issues from a broader perspective, deepen their self-understanding, examine how early life and current experiences shape their thoughts and behaviors, and explore how cultural factors and temperament may contribute to their distress.
